12. The Padang (by Malinda)

Sitting on the steps of City Hall, one could take in a good view of the Padang, a Malay word meaning ‘flat field’. To think back then, it was this place where the British flag was raised in 1819, when Sir Stamford Raffles first landed in Singapore. It is no wonder whenever one walks past the Padang, you could get the colonial feel.

The Padang was also a significant location in that, it was a place where activities such as sporting events and social gatherings were held for the Europeans. During the Japanese Occupation, a group of Europeans were also rounded up at this location and interrogated.

Getting ready to pose on the stands...

Chilled green tea and H2O save the day! Three cheers for the drinks!!! =)
