7. Indian National Army Marker (by Malinda)

All right!

We are reaching our next stop soon... =)

Leonard was extremely glad that we have reached.

Located at Connaught Drive, a few stretches down the Esplanade Park, one could locate the Indian National Army Marker, a.k.a INA.

This marker stood on a former memorial, dedicated to “an Unknown Warrior” of the INA.

INA was formed with the support of the Japanese, supposedly to free India from British rule. However, things took a twisted end, when suspicions grew between the Indians and the Japanese, after which the movement was disbanded.

When I first saw the marker, I thought it was located at a place where not many would really take notice of it, because of its not-so-appealing outlook. But upon reading the information on the marker, then did I realize the importance of the marker.

The marker represents a significant background about the Indians during the Japanese Occupation. As many would have learnt about the Indians role during the JO, the marker was erected to commemorate the efforts and struggles of the Indians, displayed during a period of hardships.

The Indians unity during times of difficulty should not be belittled, and in fact we should learn from them their unity spirit.
